The Three Lions top the group in the WMF World Cup here in Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE but things could have been so different because with less than 10 minutes away from needing a miracle to qualify and somehow, massively against the odds, they turned it around and sealed the win with a last gasp Charlie Kuehn goal to all but guarantee qualification to the last 16.

England again started on the front foot and after good work by the impressive McCluskey, his low shot was parried and in came Siao Blackwood to open the scoring and give England a 1-0 half time lead.

In the second half, it seemed like the same old story for the team when first they conceded from a poor free kick routine and then fell behind when they switched off to a Slovakian throw in and were caught out at the back post to trail 2-1.

Things got even worse when Cain Cruz lost his head for a couple of minutes and received two bookings, resulting in him being sent off and England down to 5 players for 5 minutes with only 7 minutes left to play.

What came next was remarkable courage from the players, despite trying to sit in and hold out for the final couple of minutes when they’d have their full team restored, they went at their opponents and after a long throw was fumbled by the keeper, Dominic Morgan Griffiths slotted home and the Lions roared as they pressed for a winner, that came deep into stoppage time when Charlie Kuehn moved forward and the pitch just opened up and he found himself on the edge of the box with a bit of work still to do and he smashed a left footed drive past the keeper to send the travelling support into wild celebrations along with the players.

England are in a very strong position now and if they avoid defeat on Tuesday, they will progress to the World Cup knockout stages for the first time ever.
